Labor Day has come and gone, but don't tell the fish that

OCEAN

I ventured down south to Ocean City, Maryland to do a little surf fishing post holiday. I was hoping to be on the beach when the large blues bite, however, my action was limited to a few small bluefish on bunker chunks. Strong winds made it difficult to cast spoons far enough out to reach the fish. Other than a few small blues, it was a relatively uneventful trip. The Old Grounds produced more keeper flounder this week. The Old Grounds has been a relatively hot spot to fish this year. Anglers also found success fishing at Reef Sites 10, and 11 with flounder, bluefish, and sea bass on the menu. The Fenwick Shoal has yielded bluefish to those trolling spoons, however, most of the bluefish have been small. A few blues have also been caught at the Indian River Inlet in the early morning hours. Anglers have been using bucktails and spoons. Sheepshead, triggerfish, and rockfish are also being caught at the Inlet on sand fleas.

DELAWARE BAY

The water has been rough, but a few anglers fished the Outer and Inner Walls regardless. Reports from the walls were good with sheepshead and triggerfish biting on sand fleas, green crabs, and clams. Anglers fishing the Cape Henlopen fishing pier had a productive week catching flounder. Chris Gaul stopped into the Lewes Harbour Marina after catching a flatty measuring over 20-inches at the pier. He was fishing from a kayak. Small croaker, spot, and bluefish were also caught on clams from the pier. Jeff Green weighed in a citation catfish at Captain Bones Bait & Tackle. The fish weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was caught on a peeler crab at Greens Beach. Anglers are also catching catfish at Woodland Beach and Augustine Beach on nightcrawlers, bloodworms, and cut bait. Short stripers and white perch have been caught at Woodland and Augustine as well on bloodworms, and bunker.

RIVERS

Musky and bass are biting fairly well in the Brandywine River. No reports of stripers in the Brandywine this week, but anglers wanting in on musky and bass action should go with fast-reeling lures on the incoming tide, or surface lures on slack tide. In Maryland, Izzy Mora went bow-fishing in the Potomac River and shot a 12-pound, 8-ounce snakehead. A reminder that any snakeheads caught must not be released, as they are an invasive species.

PONDS

Dan Megahan checked into Captain Bones Bait & Tackle after catching a 1-pound, 1-ounce crappie on a rooster tail. He was fishing on a farm pond. Largemouth bass and crappie were reported from Garrisons Lake and Lums Pond with frogs as the best bait for bass, and minnows and jigs for crappie. Caleb MacKnett fished Garrisons Lake and caught a nice white catfish. Cameron MacKnett reeled in a largemouth bass while fishing at a pond in Dover.
