OCEAN

DNREC confirmed a new state record. Tom Schanno landed a 46-pound 8-ounce golden tilefish that measured 47 inches with a girth of 29 inches. The record fish was caught at the Baltimore Canyon aboard a charter boat captained by Frank Perna. The fish ate a 5-oz. chartreuse and silver butterfly jig in 530 feet of water, and fought for 20 minutes before Schanno got it on the boat. The fish was weighed in at Hook’em & Cook’em. George Hill and Dave MiCarter fished near D buoy and pulled in a not so common anglerfish. Ryan Kapocsi fished the Indian River Inlet jigging bucktails off the rocks, and pulled in a striper measuring just short of keeper size. From the surf, anglers have had a bit of luck catching small bluefish on mullet.

DELAWARE BAY

White perch and catfish have been caught in numbers this week at Port Mahon. Bloodworm has been the preferred bait for white perch, and bunker the bait of choice for catfish. Keeper rockfish have been reported from the submerged jetty at Augustine Beach with peeler crab as the top bait. I like to use small egg weights there, and toggle between the rocks. White perch, catfish, and short rockfish were reported at Woodland Beach on bloodworms and bunker. Action at the Ice Breakers and the Inner and Outer Walls has been consistent with triggerfish, sheepshead, and croaker being caught on clams. Anglers fishing the Cape Henlopen fishing pier have had success catching flounder, croaker, bluefish, and spot. Dustin Best stopped into Lewes Harbour Marina after catching a 6-pound 12-ounce red drum at the pier. He was using fish bites. JD Barbour also fished the pier and netted a 5-pound 3-ounce flounder on a bloodworm fish bite.

RIVERS

I fished the Christina River aggressively this week but to no avail. I saw plenty of fish jump and watched hundreds of minnows leap from the water, however no takers on a plethora of lures. I can only guess that crappie were the cause of minnows going airborne. Anglers fishing near Fox Point State Park have been busy reeling in white perch and catfish.

PONDS

Captain Bones reported decent bass fishing at Lums Pond and Garrisons Lake. Frogs, senkos, and chatterbaits have been the way to go.
