LANDOVER, Md. – Nick Foles walked off the field and into the locker room early in the fourth quarter with a chest injury.

And just like that, the Eagles' quarterback situation was thrown into flux yet again.

Eagles beat Washington, get help from Bears to make playoffs, but Nick Foles injured

Foles said after the Eagles' 24-0 win over Washington that his chest area "is sore," and he wouldn't say whether he'll be able to play when the Eagles face the Chicago Bears next weekend in the wildcard round of the NFC playoffs.

"I’m sore," Foles said. "We’re going to find out more about what’s going on in the morning (on Monday)."

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he didn't have an update yet, either.

Tresolini: Late-season desperation transformed Eagles into playoff team

Foles was starting for the third straight time in place of Carson Wentz, who has a stress fracture in his back. Foles has led the Eagles to three straight wins. Nate Sudfeld, the Eagles' third-string quarterback, replaced Foles in the fourth quarter and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass on his first attempt.

If Foles can't play against the Bears, the Eagles could go with Sudfeld, who has never started a game in his NFL career that began in 2016. Or the Eagles might see if Wentz can play through his back injury.

Wentz had started 11 games this season, completing 69.6 percent of his passes. He missed the first two games of the season while completing his recovery from tearing two knee ligaments last December.

Eagles certain they'll be 'a problem' in NFL playoffs; they just have to get in

Originally, Pederson said Wentz would need three months to heal from the back injury. But Pederson later said the team received some "positive" news about that time frame.

Still, Wentz hasn't practiced since the last game he played in, a 29-23 overtime loss to Dallas on Dec. 9.

Sudfeld, meanwhile, had thrown just one pass this season, and that came last week, when Foles left the game for a play late in the fourth quarter after getting hit in the ribs by Houston's Jadeveon Clowney.

This time, Foles was sacked by Washington's Ryan Kerrigan on a 2nd-and-8 from the Eagles' 27 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Foles threw incomplete on the next play, and the Eagles punted.

Foles then headed for the locker room.

When asked if the injury is related to the rib injury suffered last week, Foles responded: "Ribs area. Like I said, I don’t really have a lot of information right now, so tomorrow will be a big day."

Up until the injury, Foles was having another record day.

Last week, he set the franchise record by throwing for 471 yards in the 32-30 win over the Texans. This time, he completed 25 passes in a row, breaking the Eagles' record of 24 set by Donovan McNabb in 2004 and tying the NFL record set by the Chargers' Philip Rivers earlier this season.

Foles said he wasn't aware at the time that he had completed 25 straight. His next attempt, to Nelson Agholor near the goal line late in the third quarter, fell incomplete.

"I was just playing the play, and I later found that the one I missed on was the one I double-clutched and just threw a horrible pass," he said.

Foles went right back to Agholor on the next play, and this time it went for the 6-yard touchdown.

Foles finished 28 of 33 for 221 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

But will he be able to throw another pass next week?

"I would do everything I can to get back out there," Foles said.

Would he have finished the game if it was a playoff game?

"It’s a hypothetical question that I’m not going to answer, but it was a very nice try," he said, before adding: "I’m going to care of business and get ready ... Like I said, I’m optimistic. I feel like we’ll get this thing situated.

"My goal is to be out there and play."
