Mike Behney caught this 6.5-pound sheepshead and 4.69-pound trigger fish at the Outer Wall.

OCEAN

Although the weather has been nasty, flounder are still biting at the Old Grounds on mullet. The seas are rough, but those who have ventured out to the Baltimore Canyon have had success on billfish. At the Indian River Inlet it has been mostly bluefish eating up the mullet. Surf fishing took an interesting turn at Cape Henlopen during Hurricane Matthew. Anglers were connecting on bluefish and large stripers near keeper size, and a few that were over 28 inches in length on mullet.

DELAWARE BAY

Still waiting for the big stripers to start running. Tog and sheepshead are being caught at the Outer Wall on green crab. Mike Behney landed a 6-pound, 5-ounce sheepshead at the Outer Wall, and also a 4-pound, 7-ounce trigger fish. Reports from the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier showed a decent bluefish and flounder bite on mullet. White perch and catfish along with short stripers are being caught at Woodland Beach and Augustine Beach. The perch and stripers have been taking bloodworms, while the catfish have preferred bunker.

RIVERS

Despite the muddy waters white perch, and catfish are still being caught in the Delaware River from Dobbinsville to Augustine Beach on bloodworms for the perch, and bunker for the catfish. Anglers were fishing the Delaware River at Battery Park in Old New Castle, but weren’t having any luck. There were a lot of perch jumping close to shore, however.

PONDS

Most of Delaware’s ponds were extremely dirty after the weekend rain. Patty at Captain Bones reported that Silver Lake, and Garrisons Lake are still fishable. Largemouth bass have been taking senkos, chatterbaits, and frogs in those locations.
