OCEAN

Despite the cold, and the snow ... tautog are still biting. The tough part is getting to them. Site 11 has been a prime destination for anglers searching for keeper tog, however, freezing winds have been a major factor to reach Site 11. Anglers fishing the Indian River Inlet have had some luck on tog using green crabs, but not much. Big news on flounder fishing regulations. The Mid-Atlantic Marine Fishing council will have a meeting held at the DNREC Auditorium in Dover on Jan. 17 to discuss a 30-percent reduction on flounder.

DELAWARE BAY

Bay action has frozen along with the weather. A few anglers had a bit of luck fishing for white perch at Augustine Beach. Minnows were the bait of choice.

RIVERS

Mike Bowen at Eastern Marine reported stripers in the 21- to 22-inch range at the Broadkill River. Anglers have been having success using rattle traps. In Maryland, the Chester River has been giving up its share of yellow perch in the 12- to 14-inch range. Anglers have been using double dropper loop fly rigs with small pyramid weights. Yellow perch are biting at the Sassafras bridge in Georgetown (Md.) on crazy crappie tubes. The Susquehanna River in Perryville has been giving up white perch at the barges with anglers having the most success using nightcrawlers and minnows. Richard Clendening fished Owens Marina on the Susquehanna in Perryville and did well on yellow perch. Larry Gorski and Charlie Lind caught their limit of yellow perch with fish measuring over 11 inches at Owens Marina.

PONDS

Mike Bowen also reported excellent fishing at Diamond Pond. Yellow perch up to 1¼ pounds, pickerel in the 24- to 26-inch range and also crappie have been active at Diamond Pond this week. Anglers have been using minnows under a bobber.
