Delaware Regional Fishing Report

OCEAN

Tog are still biting at ocean wrecks, and Site 11, but the action has slowed down. Anglers have been using green crab. The Indian River Inlet continues to be quiet despite the warmer temperatures.

DELAWARE BAY

The warm weather has brought out anglers to the water. White and yellow perch have been caught at Woodland Beach and Port Mahon on earthworms and grass shrimp. Catfish are also biting at Woodland Beach on bunker. A 30-inch striper was caught at Augustine Beach on frozen bunker.

RIVERS

White and yellow perch continue to bite on the Indian River near Millsboro with earthworms and minnows serving as the top baits. Anglers are catching white perch off of the route 9 bridges between Delaware City and Augustine Beach. Prime Hook Creek is ripe with white perch, crappie in the 11-12 inch range, and big bluegills. Mike Bowen of Eastern Marine reported that the yellow perch in Maryland have slowed down at Perryville on the Susquehanna. The warm weather should be driving them up the North East River towards Charleston. Izzy and Brian Mora went striper fishing in the Bohemia River and hooked a 26-inch striper using booyah hard knockers and strike king redeyes. There were also reports of rockfish being caught up to 32 inches. Brian Dickerson drifted the Georgetown Bridge on the Sassafras River and landed crappie in the 11-12 inch range along with stripers up to 26 inches. He used minnows and small grubs. MikeBowen and Mike Adams fished Worton Creek and had an active day fishing for crappie, yellow perch in the 11-12 inch range, white perch, bluegills, and largemouth bass up to 1 pound 8 ounces. They used soft plastics and a bright yellow grub.

PONDS

Patty at Captain Bones Bait & Tackle reported decent crappie action at Silver Lake in Dover and Middletown with anglers using minnows and jigs. There’s also a good bass bite at Silver Lake in Dover, Garrisons Lake, and Noxontown Pond. Suspended jerk baits, minnows, and jig n pigs have been the most effective. Bowen reported good crappie and pickerel action at Becks Pond. The pickerel are beginning to spawn, and fish up to 19 inches have been caught with anglers using pink crazy crappie tubes under a bobber as the main attraction. Delorous Jackson fished Lums Pond and netted a variety of fish including crappie, bass, and catfish while using shiners, glow worms, and nightcrawlers under a bobber. Diamond Pond has been very active this week. Large bluegills, pickerel, and crappie have all been caught. Anglers have been using minnows and shiners with a split shot weight. Gary Gicker went pond fishing in Laurel and caught largemouth bass using soft plastics.
