Delaware Regional Fishing Report

OCEAN

Good news at the Indian River Inlet. A few striper were caught including one measuring 31 inches hooked by Chris Teeter. Tog fishing continues to slow down at Site 11. Reports of anglers coming up empty has become frequent at Site 11.

DELAWARE BAY

Anglers have been connecting on white perch from shore at Augustine Beach with minnows and earthworms as the main baits. Short stripers have been caught at Port Mahon, Woodland Beach, and Augustine Beach with bloodworms, and bunker as the best baits.

RIVERS

The yellow perch bite at Broad Creek in Laurel has been hot. Robert Smith brought in a 2 pounder into Taylored Tackle. The fish measured 15 inches with a 12-inch girth. It was caught on a minnow. White perch and short rockfish have been biting consistently in the Nanticoke River on bloodworms. The Laurel Spillway has been active with crappie. Most anglers have been using minnows. White perch have been biting well off of the route 9 bridges between Delaware City and Augustine Beach on bloodworms and night crawlers. The perch bite has also been well on the Leipsic River at Leipsic, Delaware River at Delaware City, and at Reedy Point. In Maryland Israel, and Brian Mora fished the Bohemia, and Sassafras Rivers. They hooked up with rockfish in the 26-inch range in the Bohemia while using booyah hard knockers. They also caught a few crappie on senkos. In the Sassafras Israel, and Brian landed rockfish in the 24-26 inch range, and also connected on largemouth bass while using senkos. Mike Bowen at Eastern Marine reported yellow perch moving up the Chester River in Millington. Anglers have been using grass shrimp, and minnows under a bobber.

PONDS

Trout season for Kent and Sussex County begins Saturday, March 4th at Newton Pond, and Tidbury Pond. Anglers must have both a Delaware Fishing License and a trout stamp. Children ages 12-15 must have a Young Angler Trout Stamp. Fishing licenses can be acquired online at http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/fw/fisheries/pages/newfishinglicense.aspx. Jack McDermott brought in a 6-pound 5-ounce largemouth bass into Captain Bones Bait & Tackle. He caught the bass at Killens Pond on a jerkbait. Largemouth have also been caught at Garrisons Lake, and Silver Lake in Dover on jig ‘n pigs, minnows, and suspended jerk baits. Crappie are also biting well at Garrisons Lake and Silver Lake in Middletown on minnows and jigs.
