Vice President Biden borrows some lunch money.

Vice President Biden was happy to buy a group lunch Thursday from a Delaware-based sandwich shop chain that just opened a place in Washington, D.C.

Just one problem: The veep didn't quite have enough cash.

Told the bill would be $56.25, Biden pulled out a wad of money, calculated it, and then turned to an aide:

"Fran, you got ten bucks?"

As the crowd chuckled, an employee of Capriotti's offered to comp Biden one of his subs.

Biden, buying the food for his weekly lunch with President Obama, said no, he'd pay the full fare.

"I'm not taking it," Biden said. "You know what, I've been going to Capriotti's on Union Street (in Wilmington) for the last 40 years. I have paid every time I've gone.

"In Delaware, you pay. It's simple."
