New statewide shuttle announced for Firefly Music Festival

For the first time, Firefly Music Festival has its own statewide shuttle in Delaware.

The Visit Delaware Shuttle, a partnership with the Delaware Tourism Office, Delaware Lottery, Delaware Office of Highway Safety and DART, will run throughout the three-day Dover music festival in June.

What is it?

The Visit Delaware Shuttle is the first multi-city transportation program for Firefly, which will host headliners Post Malone, Travis Scott and Panic! at the Disco this summer.

In its eight years, the festival has offered shuttles from other East Coast locations in the past, but not a shuttle dedicated to The First State.

Campers vehicles are checked by security upon arrival to the Firefly Music Festival in Dover last year.

Where does it run?

The Visit Delaware Shuttle will be making stops in...

-- Wilmington area: Wilmington's Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station, Hilton Wilmington/Christiana in Stanton and Hampton Inn & Suites Wilmington/Christiana, also in Stanton.

-- Newark/University of Delaware area: Embassy Suites by Hilton Newark and Homewood Suites by Hilton Newark.

-- Delaware's beaches: Holiday Inn Express Bethany Beach, Hyatt Place Dewey Beach and Sleep Inn & Suites Rehoboth Beach.

When does it run?

The shuttles will operate Friday, June 21, to Sunday, June 23, transporting fans along the three routes.

Pick-ups will occur at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m.  and 7 p.m. each day and depart Firefly nightly at 9 p.m., 10 p.m., midnight and 1 a.m. (There will also be a 2:30 a.m. pick-up on Friday and Saturday nights only.)

How much does it cost?

The festival's shuttle announcement didn't include one bit of information: cost.

But if you go online to book a seat, you'll find that it costs $49 to get unlimited rides on the Visit Delaware Shuttle that weekend.

For comparison, it costs $50 if you have an extra car for your campsite and need an overnight parking pass.

And if you compare the Visit Delaware Shuttle to the festival's other out-of-state shuttle options, you'll find that The First State's shuttle is the priciest. However, it is the only one that's unlimited.

Other shuttle prices, which are one way, are $46 (New York City), $34 (Philadelphia) and $29 (Washington D.C. and Baltimore)

How do I book a seat?

If you're not camping and want stress-free, sober rides home each night, shuttle seats can be booked at fireflyfestival.com/shuttle.
