Pedestrian hit by multiple vehicles, killed in hit-and-run crash near Bear

A 34-year-old man was struck by multiple vehicles, some of which fled the scene, and killed Sunday night near Bear, state police said.

Police identified the victim Monday as Ramanpreet Suri, of Wilmington.

Suri was walking eastbound on U.S. 40 near the off-ramp from northbound Del. 1 at about 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, police said.

Suri remained in the right lane of the road and was hit again, this time by a 2015 Nissan Altima, police said. Police said "other subsequent vehicles" also hit Suri, but only the driver of the Nissan Altima remained at the scene, police said.

Suri was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Altima, a 27-year-old man, was not injured, police said.

The crash affected traffic in the eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway for about two hours, police said.
