Wilmington Police responded to two shootings that occurred Thursday afternoon within 10 minutes of each other on opposite sides of Washington Street.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, where she is in critical, but stable condition, Wilmington police said.

"At this time investigators believe this to be a contained domestic incident with no threat to the general public," said David Karas, a police spokesman. "This remains an active investigation and we will release further information when possible."

The first scene was reported in the 3500 block of Washington Street, where police have roped off at least three blocks. The second scene, according to police scanner reports, occurred under the Washington Street bridge.

According to scanner reports, the first incident took place about 4:30 p.m. a few blocks from Riverview Cemetery.

Neighbors stood by the crime scene tape and watched police talk to residents, look for evidence and patrol the area.

Investigators could be seen rifling through a brown minivan at the corner of 35th and Washington streets. They searched the van, opening all the doors, looking through the back seats and the blood-stained driver seat.
