A California man was arrested in Dagsboro on Sunday after police seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana and more than $277,000 in a traffic stop, police said.

The 57-year-old was pulled over on Du Pont Boulevard for a suspended California license plate, Delaware State Police said.

A Dagsboro officer approached the pickup where Charles Mulvihill from Ukiah, California, did not have a valid license or proof on insurance. The truck was supposed to have a breath alcohol ignition interlock device, which requires the driver to breathe into a mouthpiece before the ignition starts, but it did not, state police said.

Police seized more than $277K and more than 200 pounds of marijuana in Dagsboro on Sunday.

Police searched the pickup and found the following:

  • Oxycodone pills.
  • An electronic money counter.
  • Several ledgers.
  • $1,000 in cash under the dashboard.
  • Six large duffel bags.

The duffel bags under a tarp contained 98 vacuum-sealed bags of 212 pounds of marijuana, state police said.

Mulvihill was arrested and police continued to search the truck. They found a large, military-style ammunition box welded to the undercarriage of the truck. Inside, police counted $276,570 in cash.

Charles Mulvihill, a 57-year-old from Ukiah, California, was charged with multiple drug related offenses in Dagsboro, on Sunday afternoon.

The California man was sent to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $81,701 secured bail. Mulvihill was charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity.
  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
  • Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Driving without a valid license.
