A sushi restaurant on Concord Pike was temporarily closed by the health department after an inspector found a dead mouse in the sushi station and a rodent infestation throughout the eatery.

Jasmine Asian Cuisine, at 3618 Concord Pike, was closed April 26 due to "imminent health hazards" and "gross unsanitary conditions," according to the inspection report. The restaurant was allowed to reopen April 29.

A message left for the restaurant on Wednesday morning was not immediately returned.

The inspection stemmed from an April 23 complaint, in which a person noticed mousetraps in the kitchen and mouse droppings. The manager said at the time that the restaurant did not have a "mice problem," the complaint said.

An inspection was then conducted on April 26, when a state official found multiple mousetraps, mouse droppings and two dead mice, according to the inspection report. Droppings were also found in holes in the walls of the dry storage linen area as well as behind the chest freezer and under cooking equipment.

The refrigerator was found encrusted with food debris, the report said. A bottle of cold and flu medicine was found in the hand sink.

In order to reopen, the inspector wrote in the report that the restaurant needs to undergo a thorough cleaning of business and hire a pest service company. The restaurant was allowed to reopen three days later.

At least 19 food establishments have been ordered closed by the state since the start of 2019.
